S-indikator

THE S-INDICATOR The S-indicator was developed in co-operation with the Department of Speech Communication of the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), Stockholm, Sweden. The S-Indicator is intended to be used in training voiceless /s/-sounds. The indicators also may be used for other voiceless fricatives. It has been tested with English and Swedish speakers and was shown to be highly efficient. It is also useful for discriminating voiceless fricatives from voiced. The display panel of the S-Indicator contains a light emitting diode display, a red and green on-off buttons and two yellow buttons to set the sensitivity range. The sensitivity setting is useful when training pupils with very poor pronunciation. A good /s/ sound should reach the green area of the display when the sensitivity is set to 6 Also on the display panel are one yellow and one green button. The yellow button activates the memory and turns off the display. The right green button activates the display and reads the memory as long as it is hold down. When the right green button is released, the memory is reset. The speech sounds are picked up by a built-in microphone (External microphone can not be connected). The S-Indicator makes a weighting on the speech spectrum and the display gives a continuous representation that correlates with the quality of the /s/- sound. The S-Indicator has an internal rechargeable "green" Nickel-Metal-Hydride battery. The S-Indicator is delivered with a battery charger/eliminator.
